Week 7: Group Seminar:Art and interactive technology

This week is a demonstration and workshop hosted by Ruta and Niamh. This demonstration is mainly divided into three parts. The first part is Ruta, who explores the role of technology in redesigning the gallery experience. The second part is Niamh, who discusses the role of augmented reality in supporting cultural heritage. The last part is me, who discusses the role of interactive technology in supporting art beyond the scope of museums.

Ruta introduced the evolution of the museum, from the former appearance to the place that is now very suitable for family gatherings. Through human-computer interaction, using headphones, no matter where you are in the museum, you can hear professional explanations. You can experience them in depth while understanding history, and even play them in front of the screen.

Niamh introduced the application of AR in showing art and history. Firstly, the development of AR in the past 60 years is introduced. Then it introduces the application of AR in art, for example, through an AR app, you can cross the streets of Britain in 1920s, and even take photos with people at that time.

Finally, I introduced art and interactive technology outside the museum. It introduces the interactive technology outside the museum in a simple and understandable way. For example, the interaction art of cars, the interaction art of the streets, and even through the interaction technology, a waste factory is rejuvenated.

Presentation Conclusions

The biggest challenge is to design experiences that keep the balance between the use of technology and the art exhibits. To achieve this, a true collaboration between curatorial, design and tech professionals is essential. – Ruta

AR can be used to enhance experiences in the cultural sector through immersive art, enhanced digital archives, additional meta data and the reconstruction or alternative representation of museum content. – Niamh

By looking at the combination of art and technology outside the museum, I found a lot of interesting places, such as the projector art museum in Paris, and the Japanese deep experience art museum. Of course, not only these, there are many arts and technologies in our daily lives. For example, the performance art of cars, street performance art, and so on. These add a lot of fun to our daily lives. – Yan (me)

After a short rest, we started the workshop, divided the class into four groups, each group has a different box, each box has a design task. Each group needs 15 minutes to discuss their design, and then make a speech after 15 minutes' sketch.
